About Manchester
More than just a Football Club
As the second-largest metropolitan area in England, Manchester lies in the North West England region. Manchester has the honour of being the world's first industrialized city, as a result of the textile boom which began the industrial revolution, and the world's first railway station.
Continuing the trend of first’s, Manchester was the first city in the UK to run a modern light rail tram system called the Manchester Metrolink.
Manchester Airport is the largest airport in the UK outside of London and connects to more destinations than any of the other airports in the UK including Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East and North America.
The city has a wealth of offerings including architecture, music, media, science and engineering, and sporting teams while three universities also are located in the city. Nature is also on the doorstep with six designated Local Nature Reserves: Chorlton Water Park, Blackley Forest, Clayton Vale and Chorlton Ees, Ivy Green, Boggart Hole Clough and Highfield Country Park.
