DESCRIPTION

The mission of Worldwide Operations Security (WWOS) is to support Amazon’s Worldwide Operations, as well as affiliate and retail businesses, by creating and maintaining a work environment that is both prepared and secure through global security centers of excellence staffed by subject matter experts in people and asset protection. We accomplish this by creating policy and implementation guidelines; training leadership and staff; using technology to eliminate subjectivity, complexity, and variation; identifying, preparing for, and mitigating risk; and auditing our practices to ensure compliance.

The Security Operations Manager, Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), is responsible for managing a cross-functional team who supports Worldwide Operations. This is a highly collaborative and visible position that requires strong attention to detail, an inquisitive mindset and excellent communication skills. The role is accountable for ensuring performance Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are maintained, customer experience is optimal and the continuous development of a high performing team. The leader must also deal effectively with high levels of ambiguity and make response related decisions, sometimes with incomplete information, during high severity incidents.

The candidate must have a proven record of effective leadership capabilities and demonstrate elevated judgment while operating under pressure. They must possess the ability to operate autonomously, use discretion when dealing with sensitive and critical information, and apply sound business principles to identify barriers and initiate actions to resolve. The candidate should possess a proven record of working across multiple organizations to resolve escalations where the problem, solutions, and risk strategy, may not be well defined.

This position requires shift work that includes nights and weekends. This is a must and not negotiable. This role may include travel up to 25% of the year.


Key job responsibilities
- Lead and manage a cross-functional team supporting Worldwide Operations, including shift oversight and team development
- Make critical decisions during high-severity incidents and manage global crisis response, often with incomplete information
- Ensure performance SLAs are maintained while optimizing customer experience across global operations
- Apply expertise in Emergency Response, Crisis Management, and Business Continuity practices to protect life safety and operations
- Work across multiple organizations to resolve escalations and handle sensitive/critical information with discretion
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma or similar methodologies
- Provide 24/7 critical incident management support for worldwide Amazon operations through shift work (nights/weekends required)
- Create and implement security policies and guidelines for global security operations
- Mentor and develop team members while maintaining high-performance standards
- Travel up to 25% annually to support global security operations and initiatives

A day in the life
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for oversight of a shift with direct reports. The candidate assists and mentors the team when mitigating crisis and incidents at global scale. This leadership role requires the employee to work on a shift; including nights and weekends based on the needs of the GSOC. Overall, the successful candidate leads and directs teams through incidents which impact worldwide operations to achieve optimal outcomes for our customers.

About the team
The Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) provides critical support and notification to global partners regarding incidents that have, or have the potential to impact, Life Safety, Operations, and/or the Amazon Brand. We are the central location for critical incident management supporting World Wide Amazon Stores (WWAS), as well as affiliate and retail businesses. We are looking for an agile, adaptive and detail-oriented leader to triage, escalate and manage response to global critical events.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field
- 5+ years of progressive people leadership experience and demonstrated skills delivering strategy and operations
- Experience in process improvement strategy including needs assessment, scope definition, project planning and implementation
- Knowledge of Workplace Violence, Emergency Response, Crisis Management, Resilience Methodologies, and Business Continuity practices

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience leading people in a Security/Emergency Operations Center environment
- Possession of any of the following certifications (or equivalent): Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Member of Business Continuity Institute (MBCI), or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Lean Six Sigma
- Project Management experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to write clearly and succinctly for senior leadership
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and programs to include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, InfoPath, SharePoint, etc.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced operational environments
