Associate Corporate Counsel, Regulatory, (Japan Legal)
DESCRIPTION
Amazon Japan's Legal Department is looking for a talented bilingual lawyer with approximately 2-5 years’ PQE to fill the position of Associate Corporate Counsel, Regulatory Matters.
The successful candidate will primarily manage regulatory investigations and inquiries, including legal analysis, reporting and communications across all of Amazon Japan’s businesses. The attorney will advise senior business leaders on all matters relating to regulatory investigations and inquiries; provide day-to-day counseling on regulatory issues that arise in connection with business initiatives; work with Outside Counsel; work with public policy on engagements with regulators on policy related issues; and provide legal review of regulatory related public statements. The successful candidate will also regularly meet with relevant regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders.
This role will be expected to coordinate with other Amazon legal and public policy team members in and outside Japan and at various levels on strategies and other matters related to regulatory matters.
This role reports to a senior, long-tenured lawyer, Director and Associate General Counsel, Kensuke Imagi, and will work closely with Kensuke’s broader litigation and regulatory lawyers and legal professionals.
The position will be based in Amazon Japan’s Meguro headquarters, together with the Amazon Japan legal team.
Compensation is based on experience and includes equity compensation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed to practice law in Japan, US or other common law jurisdiction.
- Approximately 2-5 years' PQE legal experience at a top international or Japanese law firm and/or in-house legal department.
- Fully bilingual in Japanese and English.
- Extensive experience working as a dedicated litigation or regulatory attorney.
- Experienced attorney with strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills, and sound legal and business judgment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate complex issues and projects with diverse levels of management, clients and peers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in-house or as outside counsel for an e-commerce company is preferred but not essential.
- Experience working on Japanese competition law matters is preferred but not essential.
- Experience working at a Japanese regulator is preferred but not essential.
