One of the things that really attracted me to Amazon was the Leadership Principles. I served in the Marine Corps for 11 years, so aligning to a set of principles was very appealing to me. It’s something I was used to and that I believe helps steer an organization in a cohesive direction so you can work together effectively, whatever your role or background.

It can be challenging to transition into the corporate world, because in the military, you’re expected to have capability in a number of disciplines. For a lot of companies, they don’t appreciate that broad skillset and look for subject matter experts in very specific fields. Thankfully, I found that Amazon sees those additional skills as a plus and recognizes that my wide knowledge and expertise makes me a force multiplier for my team.

I’m grateful I can bring my military knowledge into an entirely new role and be of value to my customers.
