“Being on the water like that in a small boat, you really see that a city is so much more than just the individual. It’s about all the people around you, the buildings, the cars, the bikes. When I finally get to my desk, I can be like, ‘Yeah, I saw this when I was paddling. I could see my building.”

  • Amazon encourages employees to bike to work—with a new perk

“As a bike commuter, one of my favorite parts of the Day 1 building at Amazon’s Puget Sound headquarters is the bike cage. It has amenities like bike repair stations that come in handy when you have a flat tire, charging stations for e-bikes, and lockers and showers to freshen up before starting the day.”

My leaders and team have done anything and everything a person could ever ask throughout my cancer journey. They sent my family meals and paid for soup for me during the times I couldn’t eat solid food. And at work, they were my body when my body failed me. With the help of my team, my career progression didn’t stop. I was even able to get promoted while undergoing treatment.

I went through an embryo retrieval, had genetic testing done on each, and had them frozen. My husband and I miraculously got pregnant naturally after years of infertility—but because of Amazon’s family building benefits, we still have embryos frozen and an opportunity to have a second child. That’s something we didn’t ever think was possible for us.
